My first day on earth was 8th of June, 1973 when I embraced life in LaxmiNarayan Maternity Hospital in Kolkata (then Calcutta). My childhood days were spent along with my parents in Durgapur, West Bengal. My father worked in Mining & Allied Machinery Corporation - more commonly known as M.A.M.C. My mother was an accomplished housewife with special talents for cooking & sewing. I remember, all my childhood & teenage dresses & cardigans would be made by her.

I completed my schooling from Carmel Convent High School & appeared for ICSE in March, 1989. I was lucky to have some of the most marvelous of friends that one can expect. My school friends were one of a kind & more often than not they would bring out the best in me - be it in fun, friendhsip, laughter, sharing, caring & those other softer senses of the human nature that we so easily seem to forget as we grow older. Once we completed our ICSE, each of us went our own ways & lost contact. However, the blessed internet & e-mail technology brought me closer to my school friends again & I am now a proud member of our school mates yahoo group with 19 carmelites enlisted.

We also had a famous five club - following Enid Blyton's famous series on childrens' adventure. The members were Ratnadi (Ratnabali Mukherjee), Rini (Ananya Das), myself, Rumpa (Soumita Bhattacharya) & Mishti (Sudeshna Chowdhury) in descending order of educational seniority. The remarkable thing about our group was that we were in the same school & each of us was exactly one yr. senior to the other! I have lost touch with most of people of this group except for Misthi, who's now working TCS, Kolkata.

I learned singing along with my regular studies - again my mother was the main inspiration behind it. My tutor Mr. Bimal Mitra (not the writer) had very good teaching techniques & he could extract music from even the most unmelodious of us.

After completing my schooling, we transferred to Kolkata & I continued my education at Lady Brabourne College. Here I was fortunate to have my school friend Moushumi Mukherjee, with me. After a short period of two years, I appeared for my Higher Secondary examinations from LBC in April, 1991.

In August, 1991, I joined the Civil Engineering stream in Jadavpur University. It is in this college, that I met my future hubby, Indranath Ghosh, then a final year student, in January 1992. He graduated in August, 1992 & left for Delhi to join Consulting Enigineering Services - a reputed Civil consulting firm. Jadavpur to me is synonymous with sessionals, mass bunks, ashirbad (one of the many college canteens), sanskriti (Engg. faculty annual fest) & ofcourse those unforgettable subjects as Structural, Roadway, Environment etc. I had a very good group of friends comprising of Mahashweta Chatterjee, Nupur Chatterjee, Manjari Das, Rama & myself. The most unforgettable incident in JU was the camp in Mejiah, near Durgapur. It took place when we were in the third year second semester. I can still hear the haunting melodies of Sam's guitar & Shamik's mouth organ performed inside the concrete pipes & Bijay's melodious songs. That one month was extraordinary!!

University days flew by very fast & even before we could relax, we were all final year students waiting outside "Chat's" (Chatterjee) office to get a glimpse of shortlisted candidates for the campus interviews. I got my first chance in campus recruitment at Development Consultants Ltd. (DCL), a well known Civil Engg. design firm in Kolkata.

I joined DCL in August, 1995 & stepped into a completely different world of people - starting from very serious looking seniors to very jovial colleagues almost my age. I was lucky here again, as I could be with three of my closest JU friends - Mahashweta Chatterjee, Manjari Das & Seema Pal - we were all in the same "Power Cell" in DCL.

Indranath relocated to Kolkata in June, 1993 when he joined CESC. I got married to Indranath in Dec, 1996, when I was still working in DCL.

Although I liked my subject, I fell in love with a completely different thing while working in DCL & that was computers. My interest in the subject was further propelled by Indranath & my colleage in DCL - Prabirda (Prabir Ghosh). It was the fascination for the subject that motivated both Indranath & me to leave our respective jobs & change our career path. I joined XTEC (a software company in Kolkata - now known as TCG Inc.) in December, 1997 & Indranath joined Price WaterHouse Coopers in January, 1998. TCG split up when a part of it formed an alliance with United Airlines - this new part came to be called SkyTech Solutions & I became part of SkyTech. It was in TCG/SkyTech, that I again met Prabir-da who had already left DCL & joined TCS & then TCG. I also met Kuntal Mondal, Rabi Chakraborty, Ashish Jha, Kapil Bhattacharya & Tanmay Saha - all of whom have become our very close friends.

We left Indian soil & ventured into US in January, 2000 in search of a brighter & a propserous future. Since then we are located in Sunnyvale, California - the golden state. Indranath is currently employed with Openwave Systems, Inc. & I work for Nortel Networks, Inc.
